The Master’s programme in Renewable Energy is designed to meet 4 main objectives :

1. Build capacity in the design and construction of single-source, stand-alone Renewable Energy Systems using solar, wind, bio-mass or hydro energy
2. Build capacity in the design and construction of grid-connected, single-source Renewable Energy Systems using solar, wind, bio-mass or hydro energy
3. Develop competency in the design and construction of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems using Solar-Hydro, Solar-Wind or Solar-Biomass combinations
4. Provide a platform for research induction to familiarise the student with research methodology and its application to the fast growing domain of Renewable Energy.

The Master’s programme is designed around 4 main pillars :

1. Stand-alone Renewable Energy Systems
2. Grid-connected Renewable Energy Systems
3. Systems modelling, analysis and control
4. Research Induction

The courses in the first three pillars are spread across the first two semesters while the third and fourth semesters are devoted to research. At the beginning of the third semester, each student is assigned a research project and a supervisor. The progress made by the student is periodically assessed by juries of academic staff through seminar presentations by the student.

1. The courses in the first two semesters (first year) are assessed through a combination of continuous assessments and written examinations. The continuous assessments account for 30% of the marks for each course while the written examinations account for 70%.
2. Research Seminars 1, 2, 3 and the pre-defence seminar are assessed through oral presentations made by the student to panels of experts.
3. The assessment of the thesis has two components, one for oral presentation and the other for the quality of the thesis document.

After completing the Master’s programme in Renewable Energy, the student will be able to design and build :

1. Stand-alone Solar Energy Systems to meet specified load demands
2. Stand-alone Biomass Energy Systems to meet specified load demands
3. Stand-alone Wind Energy Systems to meet specified load demands
4. Stand-alone mini-hydro power systems to meet specified load demands
5. Grid-connected Solar Energy Systems
6. Grid-connected Bio-mass Power Systems
7. Grid-connected Wind Energy Systems
8. Grid-connected mini-hydro power Systems
9. Hybrid Solar-wind Renewable Energy System
10. Hybrid Solar-Hydro Renewable Energy System
11. Hybrid Solar-Biomass Renewable Energy System

The programme was accredited by the Cameroon Ministry of Higher Education in 2014.

The accreditation is valid over a 10 year period ( 2014 – 2024)
