Scholarships

Targets Group

In the current partnership, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from five African countries participated in the proposed Mobility project. These are Moi University (Kenya – East African Region), Makerere University (Uganda – East African Region), University of Buea (Cameroon – Central African Region), University of Zambia (Zambia – South African Region), and University of Sfax (Tunisia – North African Region). Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (Germany) came in as the EU technical partner. The mentioned countries are host universities/partners where students awarded from here are referred to as the Target one (1) group.

The project also awarded students from the following countries; Benin, Burundi, South Sudan, Mali and Zimbabwe. These countries formed the Target two (2) group of this project.

Eligibility Criteria

Only shortlisted candidates as per the following criteria will be considered:

  1. Holders of 2nd Class Honours Upper Division from any accredited African University recognized by the Partner University they wish to study
  2. Holders of 2nd Class Honors Lower Division from any accredited African University recognized by the Partner University they wish to study and 2 years working experience
  3. Be from the given Target 1 and Target 2 regions.
  4. The preceding degree should be from a field of study in the area of Energy Studies in Masters and PhD programme respectively.
  5. The candidate must meet minimum requirement for admission into Masters or PhD programmes as stipulated by Partner Universities.
  6. Master’s degree for PhD applicants from any accredited African University recognized by the Partner University they wish to study
  7. All interested PhD candidates must have a research concept paper in the intended area of study.
  8. Demonstration that one cannot afford to pay for his or her postgraduate programme will be a requirement.
  9. Proof of admission into the above stated programme will be an added advantage.
  10. Applicants who are not beneficiaries of any other scholarship award.

NOTE:
The following candidates are highly encouraged to apply for the scholarship: female, regional, disadvantaged, marginalized groups and candidates with disabilities.

Scholarship covers

The MIRET Scholarship covers:

  1. Subsistence Allowance A monthly subsistence allowance of EUR 600 for Masters Students and EUR 900 for Doctorate Candidates will be provided to cover the costs during the mobility period and will be transferred on a regular basis to the Scholarship holder.
  2. Settling-In Allowance One extra month subsistence allowance will be provided upon arrival for covering settling-in costs.
  3. Allowance for Female Scholarship Holders An extra month subsistence allowance of EUR 600 and EUR 900 will be provided per academic year to female master students and doctoral candidates for mobility equal or longer than 2 or 3 academic years respectively (i.e., the extra-allowance will only be received if the scholarship holder has fulfilled all the academic obligations corresponding to 2 or 3 academic years and completed a mobility period of a minimum duration of 20 months).
  4. Travel Arrangements & Visa Costs
    1. A travel ticket in economy class will be provided to the scholarship holder. The visa costs will also be covered by the project. For this purpose, the scholarship holder should get in touch with the project contact person, Prof. Kiriamiti - miret@mu.ac.ke in order to agree on travel arrangements.
    2. The maximum amount for travel costs (return ticket(s) and visa costs) are defined based on the distance between on one side the Home University (for Target Group 1) of the student/staff and on the other side the Host University premises.
    3. Only for mobility equal to or longer than 2 academic years, 2 return tickets can be purchased to allow for an additional travel back home during the long mobility. To be entitled to a second return ticket, students must have fulfilled all the academic obligations corresponding to 2 academic years and completed a mobility period of a minimum duration of 20 months.

Notification of Offer

Names of successful candidates are published on institutional the notice boards, websites and the interview results communicated (within one month after the application deadline) to all applicants through last known e- mail address. A reserve list of good quality students is established for use in case of drop-outs.
