There are two (2) target groups and two (2) different types for the mobilities:

Staff working in or associated with either of the four partnerships in the MIRET Project and wish to be attached at the partner institutions to learn the operations of the other institution and or participate in the daily operations of the host institution.

Staff mobility may be undertaken by academic, research or administrative staff from partner institutions who wish to visit other partner institutions.

Visits for teaching and/or research, or for engagement on administration and Management duties

Students registered/admitted in one or having obtained a higher education degree from a university established in Africa BUT not part of the MIRET partnership, with priority given to students from Mali, Benin, Burindi, South Sudan, Mali and Zimbabwe.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a scholarship, master’s and doctoral students must comply with the following criteria:

  • The candidate must meet minimum requirement for admission into Masters and PhD programmes as stipulated by the host University Senate/regulating body.
  • Proof that the candidate is a national of and residence of an eligible country, Student beneficiaries must be of African nationality and residing in Africa at the time of application.
  • At the time of the application for a scholarship, be registered at or have obtained their most recent degree (or equivalent) from: one of the higher education institutions included in the partnership (Target Group 1); or a higher education institution not included in the partnership but established in an African country (Target Group 2)
  • Students applying for PhD and Masters degree-seeking mobility, are expected to have obtained their certificates from an eligible African country, and can only be admitted to a host institution that is not in their home country.
  • Applicants will not be allowed to participate in the mobility without an admission letter from the host university.

Academic and administrative staff mobility

Staff are eligible to undertake mobility for 3 to 5 months within the partnership.  The staff on mobility shall complies of those working directly with the MIRET Project or in association with the mobility for ease of monitoring.  Staff mobility shall engage in exchange of practices, capacity building as well as improvement of (management/ academic/ technical/ administrative) skills. It should also lead to improvement in the harmonization and recognition of studies within the participating institutions as well as in the quality of teaching and research. This should be achieved through participation in research projects/activities, teaching assignments, attendance in/delivery of training courses, production of new teaching material, development of teaching methods, harmonization of curricula, development of joint curricula, development of administrative tools, sharing of management approaches, technical support, and administrative tasks.

The mobility is also expected to be an integral part of the institutional staff development plan and recognized as such upon return of the staff member.

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, staff must comply with ALL the following criteria:

  • Be a national of and resident in any of the eligible countries
  • Be a staff member (academic, administrative, and technical staff) working for one of the partner institutions

Scholarship coverage

  • Tuition fees and research costs for the duration of the study. (Provision of research costs shall be decided on the basis of the actual research needs of students supported by a budget breakdown endorsed by a supervisor.)
  • Comprehensive health and accident insurance cover
  • Monthly stipend/allowance.
  • Staff will receive a monthly stipend of Euro 1,200 .
  • PhD students and trainees will receive a monthly stipend of Euro 900 .
  • MSc students will receive a monthly stipend of 890 Euros.
  • Other benefits include:
    • Travel cost to and from the host institution,
    • Visa costs,
    • Subsistence,
    • Accommodation
    • settling allowance.
    • Health Insurance

Notification of Offer

Names of successful candidates are published on institutional the notice boards, websites and the interview results communicated (within one month after the application deadline) to all applicants through last known e- mail address. A reserve list of good quality students is established for use in case of drop-outs.

Application & Selection Process

Completed application forms should consist of the following data:

  • Personal contact information of the candidate
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Proof of nationality
  • Fulfillment of relevant requirements for different target groups and mobility
  • Proof of sufficient knowledge of the tuition language at the host university (for students only)
  • Choice of course/s and/or study programme
  • Preferred host institution and second choice.

Opportunities shall be posted on the on the MIRET  project website www.miret.mu.ac.ke when vacancies for any eligible candidates.

Selection process

Only complete applications will be considered for selection and the selection process will be carried out by a panel of coordinators from the partnership to completion. 

The results will be posted on the website and only the successful applicants will received their Letters of Notification of Offer.

Any falsefully information during application will lead to cancellation of the application.

 

Evaluation Criteria

  • Relevant Academic qualification
  • Sufficient knowledge of the tuition language at the host University
  • Relevance of the mobility for both the host university and the home university
  • Representation of the partner universities in the partnership
  • Opportunities to women

Students/Staff Agreements

It will be a requirement for all successful scholarship holders to sign an agreement to ensure all parties are guarded during the scholarship period.

The agreements is in articles stipulating the requirements to be meant by both the host institution and the scholarship holder. The agreements are to be signed before inception of the programme hence giving the scholarship holder a grips of what is expected of them
